Former Indian pacer Bharat Arun is on cloud nine as he got selected as the new Bowling Coach of India on Tuesday. Arun, recommended by the current Head Coach Ravi Shastri, had played 2 Tests and 4 ODIs for India. He was a prominent member of the Ranji Trophy winning side of 1987-88. The 54-year old has expressed his gratitude towards BCCI and said, “It feels great to be back in the Indian scheme of things and work again with the likes of Shastri, Bangar and Sridhar. I’m really looking forward to the Lanka series.”
Better than Zaheer?
Sourav Ganguly, being a foremost member of Cricket Advisory Committee, was in favour of appointing Zaheer Khan as the Bowling Coach of the team because of his tremendous experience in the bowling department. The committee even announced the name of Zak, but Shastri was not in favour of this decision.
Zaheer Khan is undoubtedly India’s finest pacer of all time, who helped India to win the glorious World Cup trophy in 2011. His immense contribution could have helped Indian fast bowlers to prepare for the much-awaited 2019 World Cup. Bharat Arun, on the other hand, had played only 2 Tests, which cannot define the person’s ability on a big scale. Clearly, Zaheer would have been a perfect option for the Men in Blue.
Who knows what’s the story inside? There could a possibility of Virat Kohli preferring Bharat Arun over Zaheer Khan. Aggressive lad Kohli is known for taking decisions on his own. So, it will not be a surprise if he has made this decision. Also, Kohli and Arun have worked together for RCB in the past. Maybe this could be the reason!
World Cup 2019
The coaching staff including Shastri, Arun, Bangar and Sridhar will remain until the conclusion of 2019 World Cup. They will have sufficient time to prove their worth. If they failed to deliver consistent performance; the staff might land in trouble. Ravi Shastri & Co. are all set for their first assignment starting from 26th July against Sri Lanka.
