The show started on 24th June with Smriti Mandhana’s stupendous knock of 90 against England & got ended in India’s defeat against the hosts at Lord’s. This World Cup has given millions of cricket lovers; a message of equality between Men’s cricket & Women’s cricket. Just like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli & MS Dhoni; Women cricketers including Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur and Poonam Raut have shown their strength in this 1-month long tournament. There were some superb performances from Indian team throughout the World Cup including Mandhana’s century against Windies, Mithali’s impressive knock of 109 against New Zealand and Ekta Bisht’s epic spell of 18 for 5 against the arch rivals Pakistan.
The target of 229 in the Final was never easy, but Women in Blue were going with a decent pace. It looked like they will get it with some overs to spare but that’s what cricket is all about. The game shifted towards England, the moment Harmanpreet got out. Veda Krishnamurthy did well in the end but was unable take his side across the victory rope. In the end, India fell short by 9 runs but was successful in getting the blessings of more than 9 million people.
Skipper Mithali Raj was happy with the team’s performance but on the other side expressed her disappointment of not lifting the World Cup title. This World Cup was a successful one for India as it gave Indian Women millions of fans across the globe. Isn’t it a great thing for Women cricket?
